Dog breeds with long, beautiful hair

Afghan Hound

One thing that makes the Afghan hound stand out is its long, silky, flowing hair.

This breed has been around for thousands of years, making it one of the oldest dog breeds.

Bearded Collie

The bearded collie came from Scotland hundreds of years ago, where it was used to handle sheep and drive cattle.

The outside of their hair is straight, rough, and shaggy, and the inside is soft, furry, and close to the skin.

The Havanese is the only dog breed that comes from Cuba. It was named for Havana, which is the capital city of the island country.

The Havanese is a popular family pet because it is smart, friendly, and good with people.

Lhasa Apso

The Lhasa apso is an old dog breed from Tibet's Himalayan Mountains. The small dogs were used as watchdogs inside castles and Buddhist monasteries.

The heavy, straight, dense double coat doesn't shed much. It needs to be brushed well twice or three times a week, and a skilled groomer needs to trim it regularly.

The story goes that if you stole one of the little dogs, you could be tortured or even killed.

The Siamese and the Burmese have both contributed to the creation of the Tonkinese.

Shih Tzu

The breed looks like a little cat because its face is pushed in and its long coat flows.

Shih Tzus are great family dogs because they are friendly, active, and open.
